I would like to preface this review by stating a couple of facts. Fact 1, these are MY OPINIONS on the matches AS I SAW THEM. If you disagree with them, feel free to post and let me know your thoughts. Fact 2. I know everyone is expecting a rave review as admittedly, C*4 is my favorite promotion in the Ottawa area, this in fact, may not be accurate as you will read.

Detailed review of C*4 Stand Alone 2010.
May 1st 2010 KOC Hall Vanier Ontario
Attendance 175+

Dark Match
Chaz Lovely and Crimson X Vs Zack Storm and Seth Seifer (SP??)

Now I know this was a dark match and I think what makes me give this the rating I do is because I know what two of these guys are capable of and they did not even come close to meeting the expectations. All I heard about in the crowd was how awesome Storm was and how amazing this would be and.....not so much. I originally thought that Chaz got hurt during a botched Falcon Arrow by storm but nope. The match was short, laiden with miscues and Horrible teamwork and timing. I was actually glad when this was over. Chaz and Seth did what they could to save this match but two guys do not make a tag team match. I found the match way too short, way too "Clunky" and just, well, bad. The team of Storm and Seiffer won vis a  Very nice Bridging German suplex on Chaz.

1.5/5
Spot of the match, Chaz cartwheeling elbowdrop.

Main Card.

Match 1
The Incredible Hunks (Deeno and Cheeky) Vs "Sexxxy" Eddy and Addy Starr

Usual pre-match antics from the Hunks. Eddy and Addy get in the ring and get the crowd going. Eddy lies down to get Addy to "Do Her Thing" When Eddy invited Deeno in to take his place. Chheky tries to warn him it is a trap but he goes in and gets a stomp in the stomach for his troubles. The  Hunks regroup and get taken to the corners where they get the ADDYBuster. The Hunks roll out and now Eddy wants one, and he gets it. Crowd was exploding. Speaking of Exploding, the best move of the match was an AWESOME Exploder suplex from Deeno on Addy...Textbook. There was a major miscue when Addy was caught in the face with a kick that busted open her nose. Addy won the match for her team with a belly to back suplex after recovering nicely from an attempted Sliced Bread number two that didn't work out so well.
2.5/5 (Mostly for entertainment value)
Spot of the match The "Face full of Stuff" Addy Busters
Good opener, got the crowd warmed up. Crowd died and piced up numerous times during the match, weird night over all.

Match 2
Ring announcer announces the next match and introduces MVP Michael Von Peyton. Music hits.....No MVP?? There is a  very long and awkward wait and Tony corrects himself and introduces Jae Rukin. Now at this point I have to throw this in, the general consensus was everyone was sheocked that MVP was on second but was even more shocked when it was the Ruking/Xtreemo rematch, as this was the one most people came to see. Not sure if there was a reason this was so early, if it was due to travel or something, please post it as it would shed some light on this.  Back to the match... This match was pretty much what everyone expected. A clinic, Mat wrestling, technical wrestling, reversal fest. You name it, it happened. I don't know if these guys just work well together , or they have a friendly rivalry in reality but man. BOOK THESE GUYS EVERY SHOW!! Match of the night!!!!...or so I thought.... The croed went crazy for this match with every near fall, there was a collective gasp!! This IS WRESTLING!! Match ended after what seemed like five minutes but in reality was closer to twenty when  Xtreemo went for the 450 and missed, Rukin went for a majistrole again to win in a carbon copy of last show but Xtremeo blocked and cradled him for the 3. RUBBER MATCH!!!!  It is 1 to 1 folks!! We have our first standing "O" of the night.

I am sure others will but I cannot find fault with this match. There were a few missed spots and bothed moves but the things that were successful FAR OUTWEIGHED the things that weren't
4/5
Spot of the match...  Way too many to name only one. I am gonna cheap out and say that the crowd was the star of this match, they made it "A big fight" feel.

Match 3.

Player Uno Vs "Speedball" Mike Bailey.

Now I was one of the few who was really hyped for this match as I had seen Basiley in an IWS show in Montreal in March and  I saw him blow the roof off the place with a 720 Cannonball knee stomp to win his match. I am also a huge fan of "The 8 Bit Luchador" So I was ready. Uno was much bigger than Bailey who was a lot faster. Uno started off with chops that echoed throughout the building. Chop after chop after chop to the point where Baileys chest was purple and swollen. Speedball did have an amazingly impressive moveset loaded with flipping evasion moves and some of the best martial arts kicks I have seen in a wrestler. He pulled off a one legged tornado kick , which any Karate student will tell you, is one of the hardest kicks to perfect, an he made it look easy. Uno went back to the chops and I don't know how the kid was still standing. He would throw a kick every time Uno threw a chop. Stiff kicks and stiffer chops. This Bailey kid is off the hook!! He moved so fast at times it was like The Matrix. This kid has a future. This match quickly went from "everyone's Favorite" Uno Vs WHO?? to Uno Vs That Awesome kid!! Bailey busted out some amazing moves, A reverse frankensteiner,  missed a shooting star press and landed on his feet. Then missed another shooting star press from the standing position and LANDED ON HIS FEET!!Uno would beat this kid down and he would kick out. Over and over and over again.  FINALLY Uno put him away with his suplex into a sitdown piledriver. This KID IS AWESOME!! Another standing "O"

4.5/5
MATCH OF THE NIGHT!!!!!
Spot of the match BUY THIS DVD !!!

Uno hugs and shakes his fallen opponents hand and respect is returned. Uno then has the mic...Huh UNO TALKS??

He lets us all know that back in January, he was supposed to get a shot at Kevin Steen but due to the show getting cancelled, he got robbed of his shot. He is officially challenging the winner of the Steen VS Dux match. New music hits and we are graced by the challenger. Dux gets on the mic and accepts the challenge by Uno. Yeah kinda figured Steen wouldn'y like this, here he comes. He get on the mic an ALSO accepts the challenge. Uno leaves the ring and goes over to the commentary station.

Kevin then cuts, what can only be described as a "STEEN PROMO" on Dux and after comparing him to Bad Ass Billy Gunn, declares the title match will happen.....right now!!

Match 4
C*4 Heavyweight title match
"Mr Wrestling" Kevin Steen Vs Tyson Dux

Match started off as I pretty much expected with both men displaying greta technical ability. They went back and forth for a while with both men gaining and losing the advantage. The match goes to the floor and we are taking a walk in the crowd!! The action goes over to the commentary station where Dux lays out Steen with a brainbuster ON THE STAGE!! Dux makes his way back to the ring as Steen lay motionless. After having the "YOU CANNOT WIN A TITLE ON A COUNTOUT RULE" explained to him by a few fans, Dux goes to collect the wounded champion.  Steen eventually gets to his feet and after another back and forth, Dux goes down. Steen for the moonsault and Dux up with the knees. Steen is now down too. They both fight to their feet where Dux eats a superkick. Then , adding to the comparison made mention of earlier, A Fame ASSer by Steen, followed by a Codebreaker!! Cannonball senton into the corner. COVER and only a 2!!!Steen recovers quickly, SHARPSHOOTER!!! Dux gets to the ropes and the hold is broken. Dux gets up, struggles with Steen and gets him up across his shoulders. Corner Bomb DVD on Steen, Pulls him out, sets up for the Brainbuster, Cradle by Steen and tthe three. WINNER AND STILL C*4 Champion. Kevin Steen!! What a match!!
4/5
Spot of the match  Kevin Steen; Ring Announcer LMAO

Intermission and God I needed it. The first half was amazing!! Three four star matches ina row. I know the crowd, for the most part, pissed all over the Steen match but I thought it was awesome. A great mix of technical wrestling, power moves and enough near falls to keep it interesting. I can see why these two are the top of the pile in Canadian Indys.

Match 5
The Flatliners Vs N.B.A (Ali and Rush)

The crowd popped huge for the returning Flatliners. Ali and Captain Heel heat hit the ring. They do their usual jawing off at the crowd. God, people hate Rush!! I mean Ali got pasted by some chick in the crowd but they hate Rush more. LOL, Even Ali said to us  when we were ripping on  him for being his partner " What the Hell do you want me to do, he's my partner!?" LOL CLassic!! Flatliners employ their usual MEGA POWER game, throwing the two smaller men around but the cunning and cagey villains take the upper hand. After a bit, the flatliners gain the advantage again and executed an absolutely amazing standing stall suplex. Asylum held Rush up for a solid twenty seconds, then Tagged in Burns who took him, MID MOVE and held him for another ten before planting him into the mat!! STUNNING!! Match ended when Ali was levelled by a Codebreaker into a wheelbarrow suplex (Which is called "Death From Above". Thanks Rotchy)

This match was good, but it would have been more suited to a second, maybe third match on the card slot. The crowd needed to be warmed back up and this match had it's moments but not enough, over all to do the slot justice. Plus, get Rush a real chair. A dude swinging Patio Furniture from Grace O malley's...Not that scary. FLATLINERS ARE AWESOME!!
2.5/5
Spot of the match The standing Stall GINO PLEX!!

Match 6
"MVP" Michael Von Payton vs. Manabu Soya

I must admit, this is also one of the ones I was waiting for. I thought this was going to be a technical marvel.....not so much. Soya took control early and held it for most of the match. MVP, heeled it up for a bit including a non break at the five that got the crowd fired up at the ref, one of the only times the crowd seemed into it. Neither man really messed up anything and both men were great but the match just didn't seem to work. Maybe the styles clashed, maybe the guys were just not used to one another, I dunno, either way It jsut didn't work. I normally like watching MVP and Soya has had great matches, just not together. Sorry Guys. Soya gained the pinfall  for the win.
2/5
Spot of the match Gotta love Soya's kicks

Match 7
The Wolfmun (Twiggy and Beef Wellington)
Vs The Warriors (Josh Alexander and "PSYCHO" Mike Rollins.

The Warriors are announced and came flying to the ring. This time however, Josh Alexander was acting like "PSYCHO" Mike. He was elbowdropping jackets and running around. It was great. Then, what I assume is the Wolfmun's music hits and after what seemed like an eternity, the ring announcer
starts some long assed introduction, that hardly nobody heard or understood. Some guy beside me yelled out "TENACIOUS D!!" I have no idea what the hell that was about. Then it just gets more confusing as Beef and Twiggy come out and Beef gets in the ring and starts to cut the EXACT SAME POMO/INTRO as the ring announcer did. This was confusing and killed the match right there. The fans turned on Beef right away and wouldn't let him even talk. Josh grabs the mic and Jaws at Beef and they're off. Before we get into the match. If anyone knows what in the Hell happened here, please let me know as this match seemed like a total clusterfuck, pardon my french, from beginning to end. The whole misunderstandng, then the crowd turning seemed to throw all the participants off their games. This match was horrible. A miscue by the Warriors and Twiggy and Beef get the win via the "WOLFMUNS HOWL" again. Josh and MIke seem to be ready to go at it, with Mike apologizing and being very sympathetic. They embrace and leave the ring. As they get to the entryway Josh snaps amd starts beating on Mike with all the rage and anger of....wel.. of being the partner of a moron. He throws him into the ring and after beating him some more, crushes him with a BRUTAL POWERBOMN!! The ref's intervene and Josh backs off. Mike fires up and goes at Josh and we have a slobberknocker, (Sad, we may never hear that on live TV again). Josh eventually gets away and leaves. We have seen the demise of the warriors.
Match 1.5/5
Heel turn at the end 3.5/5

Main Event
Now, this is where I am going to separate myself from ALMOST everyone else. Let's see what I get posted to me back.

El Generico Vs Stupified.

The crowd was solidly behind Generico as they usually are as "OLE" by the bouncing Souls Rang through the building. Stupified was announced and came out to a generous ovation as well. The two get ready and the match is on. To my, as well as everyone else's surprise, they started out with a mat wresting match. This wasn't the usual spot fest these two usually do. I was pleased as I love the spot fest here and there nut I also like to see what guys have when it comes to ability on the mat. The crowd didn't seem to like this and the "BORING" chats rang out. I didn't think so but apprently the majority did. Back and forth contest with Generico getting the upper hand and hitting  a few great moves. The crowd was slowly coing around and a spattering of "This is awesome" started. They amped up the pace and the high flying element and the crowd started to get really into it. I thought this was a great match, now I am going to say it was not good enough to be given the main event spot but it was the best match of the second half of the show by far. Stupified pulled out the win by hitting a frog splash that Generico tried to roll out of the way of but Stupe still hit it more than half way across the ring!! Amazing!!
3.5/5
Spot of the match  Stupe hit wat could only be called a 360 flip  reverse DDT thing. I have no idea what the hell it was but it was wicked!!

Overall a good night. Slow in places and the card was all jumbled up but why that is, we don't know. I am not going to fault the talent for that, or depending on the circumstances, the promoter. This was not C*4's best show by far but far from the worst show. These rae my thoughts, lemme hear yours.

Sorry for the lateness, I have had a shit weekend. I am back now and I hope you enjoy the read. Good, bad, or indifferent. I hope to hear your feedback

Ask anybody in the locker room - they'd rather get hit with a metal folding chair over one of the plastic ones.  The Plastic ones won't bend, and have no give whatsoever.

As well, everybody's been asking where Bash Bison has been... well, remember that chair-shot he took from Rush?   Suffering the repercussions of that shot is where he has been.

i pretty much agree, i popped hard when josh turned i've been waitin awhile to c that, the Tenacious D comment was me, when Tony was readin that speech it reminded me of a part of the movie, only not funny or entertainin ( Ben Stein could have read it with more enthusiasm) Gina, Asylum of the Flatliners was great, even he is gettin into the Gina thing, Xtreemo and Rukin a big thanks 2 these guys - both r great
Maybe its just me but when the announcer fucked up ( or whoevers fault it was) Tony should have just kept things movin rather than tryin 2 blame sum1 ( your the guy in the ring with the cards, maybe check them b4 u read )
all in all i had fun, we were tryin out a new thing and tried not to offend every1 in the arena ( sorry guys it just doesnt work 4 me, to be outdone, damn rollerchicks)
thanx C4 still the # 1 promo in the area that i've seen

Never seen a Tenacious D movie. The reason I marked the Turn so high is they did it perfectly. Everyone was waiting for it in the ring. The they hugged and left. Everyone went " AWWWW NO TURN and then it happened. It was scripted Beautifully. Anyone who said they knew it was going to happen after they left the ring is a fucking LIAR!!
