DETAILED REVIEW
Just got back from the IWS show and I am still pretty amped up. The trip there wasn't that bad, it ws essentially right off the highway so there was no fighting through downtown Montreal. A few things that they didn't tell me on the invite that would have been helpful to know in advance. Number one; upon entering, you have to go through a metal detecor, which of course involves emptying your pockets. Kind of a pain in the ass. Secondly, any hats woith logos are not allowed. They said I couldn't wear mine so I stuffed it in my coat and wore it anyways, like I care. They are not bad points but it would have been nice to know. I had to remove my chains and my money, my jewellery etc...I went to see wrestling, not board a flight for fuck sakes.
The "Venue" was a sub bar inside the bigger bar. There were plusses and minues to this as well. The plus was that there was a bar that was pretty much right near ringside and there were (EXTREMELY HOT) waitresses that came around and took your orders rather than you going up to the bar itself. The minuses, both seemed to ignore my friends and myself. When I did politely get their attention by yelling at them and waving money, (Disrespectful I know but after waiting fifteen minutes and having every waitress walk right by me I was starting to feel like I was back in high school)they informed me they carried no Diet pop at all, but they had lots of regular pop, whiich is of course what every Diabetic wants to hear. Not a great fucking start.
The lights dim and the all familliar IWS Theme song begins, and the blood started to pump faster. Llakor (SP?) comes to the ring and talks about how he came to be announcing tonight and , I gotta admit, I tuned him out as the waitresses were taking drinkk orders right around me and I was just ...distracted. LOL. God they were hot....sorry. Now I have not seen an IWS Show since 2008 and am not current on themes or storylines but I will walk you through as best I can with the knowledge I have.
Music hits and out comes Beef Wellington, Your IWS Champion. He gets on the mic and has a few go arounds with the fans and then announces that the last act of the now former President of the IWS was to remove him from the Triple Hell match so basically Eddie and Manny can kill each other and the winner would get him in a title match. Lights go out and music starts The returning Green Phantom hits the ring and Beef takes a powder. Phantom announces that he is in the Triple Hell Death match and he will be the winner. We now have a double main event. PCP Crazy "F'N" Manny, Vs Sexxxy Eddie Vs The Green Phantom followed by the Winner Vs Beef Wellington for the IWS Title.
** Interesting opening , a little confusing at times to follow without knowing what happened in the last few shows but in esscence, plain and simple ** 6/10
IWS Tag Team Title Match
Dan Paysan comes to the ring alone. He grabs the Mic and tells everyone that James Stone has gone off to become a "Rock Star" and turned his back on the IWS and on him. He says he has a replacement that he is not fond of, he may not like but is a great tag team wrestler. He introduces Jeff "Jagged" Parker, (I Think). They are then announced as the IWS Tag Team Champions as "The Untouchables 2.0" The challengers are then introduced and the match starts.

Good opener. Lots of Comedy spots with a fair amount of good wrestling as well. Jagged played the ...I guess you would say Reluctant Heel. Covertly cheering for Twiggy to spite Paysan, Making Paysan look stupid and such. Funny stuff. The match ended after Twiggy snuck in and injected Frankie in the ass with a "SHOT OF ROIDS"" causing Frankie to "RAGE" and wipe out the opponents. Your winners and NEW IWS CHAMPIONS THE ROCK'N'ROID EXPRESS. Frankie then got on the mic and said that he should say to dstay off drugs, and that drugs are bad, but he isn't because IT IS GREAT TO BE BACK!!
Decent match. Good balance of comedy and wrestling. Frankie has gotten a little rusty sinc I have seen him last. Twiggy did the bulk of the work, as usual. Parker and Paysan play extremely well off of each other and hopefully we will see a program between the two develop. 5/10

"Canada's Greatest Athlete" Shane Matthews Vs Sunny D. Yeah, you heard me... Sunny Fuckin "D" This was a squash match from the get go. The oponent looked like a construction sign, he had orang'ish tights with a reflector cross on them, he got in a few moves but when a guys pre, and post match promos go longer than , as well as, are more entertaining than the match itself, it is a squash match in my books. If I kne there was not going to be an intermission I would have went for a smoke. To his credit, Matthews has trimmed down quite a bit since I last saw hijm in November. I say he has lost about twenty pounds and is actually starting to look like an athelete again. 4/10

IWS Canadian Title Match (Originally Sceduled to be a three way)
Shayne Hawke (C) Vs Stinky "The Homeless Guy"
Not sure why the match was changed, it was never announced or revealed but whatever. I wasn't sure which Shayne was going to show up so I was more than a little curious. There is "I Am Gonna Phone it In" Hawke and there is "I am Here To Steal The Show" Hawke. The one that showed up was in the middle leaning more towards show stealer. I was actually semi impressed. Bash put on a display of power as one would expect and Hawke was using speed and experience to escape from various predicaments. Not 100 percent what move ended the match, as my view was obsructed by the waitress taking orders right in front of me, but the crowd didn't go nuts so I am assuming it was not an electrifying move, more than likely a roll up or sunset flip or something, sorry guys. Winner and still IWS Canadian Champion Shayne Hawke.
Solid match for these two. Far from the best I have ever seen, but equally far from the worst. 5/10

Excess vs "Heavy" Maxx Fury
Again, these two were removed from the Canadian Title match originally scheduled but it worked out for the best. I have always been a fan of Excess. not a monster fan, but a fan none the less and I have to admit, I had no idea who the Hell Maxx Fury was. In what has got to be, in my opinion the match of the night, Excess and Fury put on a technical wrestling showcase, which is not at all what I expected. The crowd did their usual "BORING" chants during it but I found it amazing. Hold, counter hold, reversal, stand off...IT WAS AWESOME. I highly recommend anyone who is able, get the DVD and watch this match. Excess won the match after a solid ten minutes of amzing technical wrestling with what can only be called a Top Rope Back flip clutching "Last Call" ?? I don't know what to call it. 8/10
SPOT OF THE MATCH : The Whole thing and that amazing Finishing Move!!
Fred "La Merveille" Lauzon(Captain), Pauly Platinum & Mathieu St.Jacques vs Player Uno(Captain), Mike Bailey & Alex Silva.
I have seen it on DVD and I have laughed. I saw it in person last night and I cringed. Hearing Fred serenade the crowd....was something else. LOL. My ears are still bleeding. This match was very awkward at times and seemed to lose it's flow, more than once. Tempo was off,some of the missed spots were EXTREMELY notcable, but overall, it could have been a lot worse. Uno's team pulled out the win with one of the guys, I am not sure which one, as I don't know the newer IWS guys, with a a 540 cannonball knee stomp off the top rope. Absolutely amazing!! Overall as I said, awkward but not a bad match 5/10

IWS Title Triple Hell Death Match Barbed Wire, Panes of Glass and Thumbtacks for a shot at the IWS Title
The Green Phantom Vs PCP "Crazy F'n" Manny and Sexxxy Eddie.
All the fans rushed the ring and were standing up for the entire match and with the very thinl chairs I didn't wanna stand on them as I wanted blood, but not mine. Phantom won. Dunno how if someone knows, add it. This is where on the DVD, Llakor would say "This match brought to you by the C.N.I.B. because we can't see shit!!. As for what I did see. As they neared closer to me, I thought it was an added "BONUS" that Manny bleeds like a stuck pig and when he got hit into a chair, I got some lovely splatter on me ( My dry cleaner is going to have questions). Eddie was announced, and rightly so , as the only motherfucker crazy enough to wrestle a deathmatch in a thong. He went into the tacks, and the barbed wire WHILE WEARING A THONG!! Respect the Hell out of him for it.

Beef Wellington (C) Vs The Green Phantom
Very short match, The glass was used right off the bat as Beef dropkicked the Phantom thru it in the corner. The POP from the glass as it exploded was awesome and I got sprayed with glass, IT WAS AWESOME!! Match ended when The Phantom hit the PHANTOM MENACE onto the thumbtacks for the pin. WINNER AND NEW IWS CHAMPION!!! THE GREEN PHANTOM. Hard to see but that is hardly the guys who worked it's fault. A few good spots and a very cool glass dropkick. Seemed to be over really quickly. I am only asssuming they are going somewhere with this but stay tuned.. Over all for both main events combined 7/10

Well worth the ten dollar admission, the atomosphere is what has to be experienced. You can feel it in the air which is something hard to explain if you have never been there. I am sure I will go again if it is promoted this time. I found out like three days in advance, if I had a few weeks, I am sure I could have gotten at least a dozen guys from Ottawa to go and maybe made a weekend of it. If you are curious about hardcore wrestling I highly recommend checking it out. It will, in my opinion, never replace C*4, CSE or RWE as they are totally different products, but IWS Does Hardcore, like no other.
I wish they would have mentioned the Metal detectors in advance, I know I seem to be making a big deal out of this but it is a small piece that fits into the puzzle of mis promotion. The soft drink issue is another one. Some of us cannot have sugary drinks and I have never been to a bar that has NO DIET POP. Also the not allowed to wear hats issue. I told the guy that I wasn't taking it off and he gave in. Part of my GIMMICK, if you will is my fedora. No one tells me to take it off. They were also taping a TV Documentary as well with notices posted AT THE VENUE, not notifying people in advance. The sign basically, and I shit you not, if you didn't like it...GO HOME. Another sticking point, again, not to trash any of the performers as it is not their fault, The merch table. You could buy Manny T's and IWS DVD's and that was it. No Beef merch, No Eddie merch, no merch but Manny Merch. Like I said, just a sticking point. Dollar for Dollar The IWS delivers just as much "BANG FOR THE BUCK" as any of the Ottawa Feds and my hat goes off to them, until they tell me to take it off then they can bite me.
