Lee: We’re you a fan growing up?
Twiggy: Yeah, just like everyone else I was a very big fan of wrestling growing up. I was basically raised on it as my family were all fans.
Lee: who did you like back then?
Twiggy: Naturally, I was a big Hulk Hogan fan. How could any kid not like Hulk Hogan back then? I loved all the “good guysâ€. I was the typical fan and to be honest, I miss those days.
Lee: When did you decide you wanted to be in the wrestling business?
Twiggy: I decided I wanted to be a rassler at a pretty early age, had to be 8 or 9. I never really knew HOW I would go about it, but I knew I WOULD go about it. It was just a matter of “when I grow up, I really want to do this!â€
Lee: So how did you get into the wrestling business?
Twiggy: Well around 2002 I started following the Montreal independent scene which was pretty hot at that time. I would scope around on the web trying to figure out how I could get started with training. Coincidentally enough, IWS announced they were opening up a school and I was really big on their stuff at the time, so it was a natural fit.
Lee: So, who were your trainers?
Twiggy: My primary trainers were Beef Wellington & El Generico. A lot of the time various IWS wrestlers would stop by and give out some tips. It was always fun training with PCP Crazy Manny as well.
Lee: Awesome. So did you take to it right away or did you have some problems learning?
Twiggy: I mean, like anyone there were times when it was hard and it was easy to get discouraged. But when you have people like Beef & Generico training you who were always so helpful, it was easy to rebound. I won’t say I was a natural right off the bat, it’s always a process, even to this day. To me, it was just practice, practice, practice.
Lee: Alright how long was it until you had your first wrestling match and who was it against?
Twiggy: I started training in October 2002 and I had my first match on August 23, 2003. It was an MWF show in Valleyfield and it was against my good pal Pornstar Juan.
Lee: Was he one of the guys training along side you? Who was?
Twiggy: When we went to the initial meet and greet seminar, there were atleast 12 guys there. The next week, the only people who showed up were Pornstar Juan, myself and another fellow. Training to become wrestlers was a dream we shared ever since we were in elementary school.
Lee: Wow, so how did the match go?
Twiggy: It went about as well as a first match for anyone could have gone. We practiced that match for like a month which is laughable now. It was a good way to start things off in the wrestling business.
Lee: Were you called Twiggy for the match? Was he known as Pornstar Juan back then?
Twiggy: Yes, I’ve been Twiggy since day one and he was Pornstar Juan. Timeless characters, indeed.
Lee: How did you come up with the Twiggy name?
Twiggy: I wish there was a funny story for it, but there really isn’t. I am obviously a very skinny indevidual so the name just popped into my head one day and it just stuck. I don’t think there is any other name I could have picked that would have worked better than Twiggy.
Lee: Who won your first match anyway, was it you or Juan?
Twiggy: Pornstar Juan has the distinct honor of winning that first match.
Lee: Okay so where did you go from there? Did you wrestle in other promotions?
Twiggy: My home at that time was MWF out of Valleyfield. I would do little shows here and there and get bookings when ever I could but for the most part, it was all about MWF for about a year and a half.
Lee: Did you win any titles during that time in MWF?
Twiggy: Me and Pornstar Juan were able to get a hold of the MWF Tag Team Titles in October 2005 which we held for an impressive 56 days.
Lee: Wow man, who did you beat and who did you lose it to?
Twiggy: We beat Frank The Red in a handicap match. Thats right, we won tag team titles in a handicap match. His partner, Carl Choquette was hurt and was unable to wrestle. We never really officially lost the titles, either. Pornstar Juan suffered a broken jaw at an IWS event in December 2005 so we ended up getting stripped due to injury.
Lee: So how long was it before you went to the IWS from your debut?
Twiggy: As I said, I started wrestling in August 2003, I had done one little deal for IWS in February 2004 but my official debut on to the main roster came in April 2005, once again against Pornstar Juan. When I started training, my ultimate goal at that time was to earn a regular IWS roster spot.
Lee: Was it February 2004 when you got thrown from the ring by someone, I forget who it was but it was at The Medley. I was there. Did you hit your head on the floor, ’cause that’s what I heard.
Twiggy: Well, in February 2004 I took part in a gauntlet at IWS as a surprise entrant. The next month which was at The Meldey, I was able to do a little spot on the show. As you mentioned, I was thrown from the ring, gorilla press slam style onto a few other guys and I ended up smashing my head against the Medley floor(I would suffer that same fate in the same building and in the same spot in…September 2008) and suffered my first concussion.
Lee: I believe at IWS V, you got your arm bitten off by the Bear from the Bear vs Beef Wellington match? Please tell me about it.
Twiggy: Correct, I was assigned by the higher ups of the company to be the bear handler for the day. As I guided the bear to the ring with a box of granola bars, it accidentally ripped my arm off. Luckily, it was reattached later in the evening.
Lee: Okay let’s jump a little ahead here.. You formed a team with Porn Star Juan as Rock ‘n’ Cock Express. The two of you would do battle with many of the IWS tag teams. What was it like to team with your good ol’ buddy Pornstar.
Twiggy: The first time we got paired up was in MWF, we both were really puzzled as to why. I mean our characters were the complete opposite. But once we started teaming, it just clicked. We played off of each other so well, we were what a team should be. Once we started in IWS, they quickly paired us up as well and the rest is history. I loved my time as a member of the Rock N’ Cock Express, I would have liked to accomplish more but thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. We had fun and the fans loved every second of it so at the end of the day, that all that really matters. Some of the best times of my life.
Lee: So.. there was one show that I went to back in the day that I remember ’cause I wasn’t drinking that night, and that night was the night Pornstar Juan got his jaw broken by Damian. What was going through your mind when you saw your friend pissing blood out of his mouth?
Twiggy: Well during the course of the match as you said his jaw was broken, he continued the match so I had no clue anything had happened. Once the match had ended, we were both down on the mat and he told me he thought his jaw had been broken. We rushed backstage and got our stuff together quickly and luckily enough we had a lift to the hospital. I mean you don’t want to see anyone get hurt but the fact that the guy is my best friend made it a lot harder to deal with. Inside, I was angry that we had been placed in that situation but at the end of the day, these things happen.
Lee: So he was out for a while. I think you got into a feud with PCP Crazy F’n Manny right? and he’d make his return to save you with a barbed wire bat? Refresh my memory.
Twiggy: That’s correct, I think it was the natural thing to do at that point. Manny had placed us in the match so it only made sense to go into that program. I had what was Manny’s return match to the ring after a very long break and Pornstar made the save leading to what ended up being my first ever IWS victory after a year.
Lee: Okay let’s jump ahead a bit here. You won the tag team titles with I believe Franky the Mobster, how did that come about?
Twiggy: I had been feuding with 2.0 for a long time before that and we ended up being placed in a four way IWS Tag Team Title match. My partner at that time, Vanessa Kraven was injured and couldn’t compete so I went into the match alone. The final two teams at the end were myself and 2.0, Franky’s music hit, he came out, made the save and the rest is history.
Lee: So who did you end up losing the tag straps to?
Twiggy: Well, in true Twiggy fashion, Franky had been injured much like Pornstar Juan & Vanessa Kraven. I think teaming with me MIGHT be a curse. El Generico ended up subbing in for Franky and in our first defense we lost them to Cheech & Cloudy in August of 2008.
Lee: So what has been happening in IWS since then. I haven’t been following it.
Twiggy: Well, I unsuccessfully tried to capture the IWS Title from Kevin Steen. I worked my way up to a IWS Canadian Title shot at the IWS’ 10 Year Anniversary show against Shayne Hawke, which I also lost. At this point, I’m just looking for a win. IWS has the Summer off, it’s next show is on August 29, 2009 and info on that event can be found at
www.iwswrestling.comLee: Awesome. So let’s talk about ISW.. the first show you walked out with the ICW/ICWA Texarcana Television Championship by beating Sweet ‘n’ Sour Larry Sweeney. What are your thoughts on the match and your championship win?
Twiggy: Probably the greatest professional wrestling match that has ever taken place. Winning the belt was cool, at this point A LOT of people have held it but I was the first person to ever beat Larry Sweeney for it, so thats neat. It was the first title I have ever held and I lost it within 24 hours, but I’m cool with that.
Lee: Yeah you lost it the next night at MWF in a tag match, am I correct?
Twiggy: Correct, it was myself and Pornstar Juan facing Larry Sweeney and Hallowicked.
Lee: This is where things get fuzzy, I wanna talk about but I haven’t really followed ISW even though it’s a great promotion. Can you give us a run down of your time there after you match with Larry Sweeney?
Twiggy: I had a bitter feud with Fred La Merveille which culminated in a legendary Coal Miners Glove match which I came out victorious at Slamtasia in March of 2007. It was a really exciting time when ISW made Foufs it’s home in 2008. I got a chance to face off against and team with my teacher, El Generico. ISW gave me a title shot against Player Uno at Chikara’s trios tournament which was a great moment. The chance to wrestle at the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 and again in 2009 was just a great time. Any time ISW shows roll around, it’s a time to get excited. I am really looking forward to ISW’s debut in the United States on August 23?rd in Hartford.
Lee: Okay awesome. You wrestled for Chikara too. How was that?
Twiggy: I did a few shows with Chikara in late 2006, which were fun. I got a chance to wrestle in the ECW Arena which was a huge deal to me. I know a lot of people don’t see it as a big deal, but to me the history is there and I love any time I get to step into a ring in that building. Doing the trios tournament show was also a good time, I got sick of eating American food, though.
Lee: So now we move on to C*4 wrestling. Again there you had a feud with Sweet -n- Sour Larry Sweeney. What are your thoughts on those matches you had with him?
Twiggy: I really loved our loser wears a dress match. The crowd was rabid, the building was hot and muggy, the perfect ingredients for a good, old fashioned wrestling match. I am happy to say I was not wearing a dress at the end of the night. Any time I get to work for C*4 is an absolute pleasure, I love that company and the fans. They show up to have fun.
Lee: You also had a series of matches I believe with Super Star Shayne Hawke. Thoughts on those?
Twiggy: We seem to become rivals where ever we go and C*4 was no different. We had, what I believe to be a pretty entertaining bunkhouse brawl. I had been looking for any excuse to wrestle in tight jeans and cowboy boots so I thought this was the perfect opportunity.
Lee: Finally your feud with MVP. You ended up on the short end of the stick 3 times and lost your career in C*4. Thoughts on those matches?
Twiggy: I think they were entertaining, competitive matches that the fans really got into. Two very different wrestlers just getting into the ring and fighting and it doesn’t get any better than that. I’m looking at my options and seeing if there is anything I can do about that stipulation. But as it goes now, I’ll be staying away from C*4, unfourtunately.
.
Lee:Okay.. now some random questions. What was the worst injury you ever recieved?
Twiggy:I have been pretty lucky, everyone around me seems to have that one big injury while I have sustained only a few minor ones. Two concussions is all I can really say, you can also throw in two banged up knees and a consistently sore back. Like I said, I have been pretty lucky, no complaints.
Lee: Any good road stories?
Twiggy: I wish I had some really entertaining ones, road trips I am on usually consist of a lot of rock n’ roll blasting through the speakers with some singing along. The one quality story I can supply would be riding with El Generico as he drove in only underwear and no shoes. We then got pulled over and he got a ticket while he lacked clothing.
Lee: Any good rib stories?
Twiggy: Once again, I wish I had some, I am not a big ribber. The ones I do pull are classified, sir. I can’t give away my secrets!
Lee: I understand! Are you happy with what you accomplished so far? Is there anything you want to do that you haven’t?
Twiggy: I always look at it this way, if I left wrestling tomorrow and looked back at what I have done, I would definitely be happy. I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I would so thats very cool. The one thing I would like to do that I haven’t done yet is work in Europe. It’s a realistic goal that I am certain I can accomplish.
Lee: Anyone you haven’t wrestled that you’d like to wrestle?
Twiggy: I don’t really put much thought to it to be honest. It’s always a pleasure to step into a ring with El Generico, he seems to bring out the best in me. I would love to square off against Big Kevin Steen again. Any time I get to wrestle a new opponent is always cool.
Lee: Any crazy fan stories?
Twiggy: Oh, man, let me think. There were tons of crazy weird fans in Valleyfield for MWF. An old bird who use to pull her false teeth out and wave them at the wrestlers. She once bought my shirt and asked why it said “Twiggyâ€, which left me a little confused. She apparently thought, along with MANY fans there that my name was “Twittyâ€. That says it all, man. That says it, all. I would love to say I took it personally, but I love that stuff. I started many Twitty chants in the ring. The Montreal scene is a hot bed for a lot of crazy folk, but they are awesome fans.
Lee: I love it. I’m calling you Twitty from now on.
Twiggy: I’m down.
Lee: Anything to say to your fans?
Twiggy: Thanks for the constant support, thanks for singing along to Living On A Prayer. When I am havin a bad day and I get in the ring, the fans make my day a lot better and thats the 100% truth. But I will never, ever sign a nude ass.
Lee: What if it were Meghan Fox’s ass?
Twiggy: There are prettier celebrities out there, namely Natalie Portman.
Lee: Okay what about her ass?
Twiggy: Sure.
Lee: One final question.. Someone on the Chikarafans board asked “How’s your brother Branchy?â€
Twiggy: He’s hanging around.
Lee: Okay thanks for the interview.
Twiggy: My pleasure.
